Black Bean Bird Spoon

A unique and beautiful hand-carved wooden spoon in avian motif, designed and sculpted for serving, by Spoontaneous' Terry Widner. The black bean wood was sent to Terry from a fellow spoon-carver in Australia where it grew, and Terry has revealed the browns of the grain in a nicely shaped, deep, and tapered bowl. The bird's beak is bonded to the black bean wood, carved from an unknown, dark variety with lovely tones of red.

The Story

Playful, inspiring, extraordinarily creative, always organic. These are the words that come to mind when considering Terry Widner's approach to wood carving. Creating spoons, scoops, vessels and decorative pieces at this studio in the US state of Florida, Terry allows the creative process to play out as it will, embracing the 'not-knowing' aspect of where exactly a given object's final form will land.
