Purple Zebra Damascus Chef 249mm

Oversized in personality and cutting capacity, this gorgeous and formidable culinary tool will prove its worth many times over in any kitchen where a workhorse reigns (reins?). Two distinct and bold carbon damascus patterns, zebra stripes on top to form the spine, and a stunning canister-damascus edge bar below, each work to accentuate the proportions of this hand-filling 249mm / 9.8" chef knife with a heel that stands 58mm tall and an impressive overall weight of 11.2oz / 320g. Wide and strong toward the heel with very pronounced convex geometry above a sharp, hard edge, the bevels slim steadily toward the tip which bladesmith Niko Nicolaides has honed to an especially fine and precise point for detail work, adding to the versatility of a full-size tool that will tackle the toughest and most demanding of cuts around the kitchen. And to wield such power with exactness and care, a sculpted and faceted integral bolster is paired with a striking piece of purple G-carta custom-made by G.L. Hansen & Sons to form the handle. Another extraordinary knife by this Detroit-based maker.

The Story

At his one-man studio in Detroit, Michigan, Niko Nicolaides creates custom chef knives with a focus on unique, house-made damascus pattern steel and hand-forged blades. A self-taught, full-time bladesmith, Niko worked previously as a CNC programmer and operator before leaving to hone his skills on the decidedly analog, artisan end of the object-production spectrum. A desire to make great looking, superbly functioning culinary tools that will last a lifetime is why he does it.
