Padauk San Mai Sujihiki 194mm

Hand-forged by bladesmith Alex Bazes, this lightweight, slim, and razor-sharp sujihiki features a superb 194mm / 7.6" iron-clad blade with Hitachi Blue No.2 edge and silky kasumi finish. Quite thin behind the edge from heel to tip with a full distal taper, the nicely curved edge is guaranteed to slice with effortless precision time and time again. Polished to a smooth and lustrous finish, the red padauk wood handle is capped with an heirloom-fit bolster of hammered copper that receives a forced patina using a proprietary method developed by Alex, a process that is an ode to his grandfather, an artist and etcher, and an important inspiration behind Alex's love of copper.

The Story

Originally from Westchester County, New York, Alexander Bazes has been living and working outside of Kyoto, Japan, training under master bladesmiths from Kyoto and Osaka at every opportunity while honing his own techniques at his small, one-man shop. A dedicated craftsman focused on mastering each subtlety of an ancient craft, Alexander's work is continually evolving and we could not be more impressed by the work he is producing today.
