Maroon Ball Bearing Chef 205mm

Two distinct and equally captivating damascus patterns form the blade of this integral chef knife, hand-forged in Detroit by bladesmith Niko Nicolaides. A canister pattern created with ball bearings and carbon steel powder meets an edge bar of low-layer twist damascus, complementing each other aesthetically to form the 205mm / 8" blade with relatively straight edge that can still rock on the board when desired, to make full use of the 53mm tall height at the heel. The softly rounded and sculpted integral bolster meets a unique, eye-catching piece of custom G.L. Hansen & Sons G-carta with bands of red, burgundy, and black. An outstanding full-size chef with Eastern-style blade, Western-style handle, and sharp, convex workhorse edge, for many years of meal prep in working or home kitchens alike.

The Story

At his one-man studio in Detroit, Michigan, Niko Nicolaides creates custom chef knives with a focus on unique, house-made damascus pattern steel and hand-forged blades. A self-taught, full-time bladesmith, Niko worked previously as a CNC programmer and operator before leaving to hone his skills on the decidedly analog, artisan end of the object-production spectrum. A desire to make great looking, superbly functioning culinary tools that will last a lifetime is why he does it.
