Bog Oak Damascus Santoku 197mm

Our first offering from Alexander Bazes of Bazes Blades, this gorgeous santoku is handcrafted from damascus clad san mai with a Hitachi Blue No.2 core and features a long, slim, 2400-year-old bog oak handle with copper ferrule and pin. Balanced at the heel, with its thick spine at the handle, beautiful distal taper and thin edge, Alexander's mentorship under a variety of master bladesmiths in Tokyo and Osaka is immediately felt with this knife in hand. A gentle curve to the blade profile for rocking cuts and a thin, razor-sharp edge and tip for precise work make this a daily user with versatility in a package dressed to be handed down through the generations. A wooden blade cover is included.

The Story

Originally from Westchester County, New York, Alexander Bazes has been living and working outside of Tokyo, Japan, training under master bladesmiths from Tokyo and Osaka at every opportunity while honing his own techniques at his small, one-man shop. A dedicated craftsman focused on mastering each subtlety of an ancient craft, Alexander's work is continually evolving and we could not be more impressed by the work he is producing today. We're proud to offer Bazes Blades here on Eatingtools.
