Ancient Kauri Spoon

How would it feel to go back 50,000 years in history? There is one way to find out, to hold a functional work of art made by Terry Widner from Kauri wood. Native to New Zealand, this wood has been on earth for much longer than our own civilization. In a way, this simple design is reminiscent of more ancient, primitive art. Smooth, lightweight, and comfortable in the hand, this spoon can provide a daily encounter with a world larger than us.

The Story

Playful, inspiring, extraordinarily creative, always organic. These are the words that come to mind when considering Terry Widner's approach to wood carving. Creating spoons, scoops, vessels and decorative pieces at this studio in the US state of Florida, Terry allows the creative process to play out as it will, embracing the 'not-knowing' aspect of where exactly a given object's final form will land.
