White Maple Scandi Eater

Lightweight and slim, Maximilian Neukäufler's Scandi(navian) Eater is on one hand simple and straight forward, perfect for eating outdoors, on-the-go, or in the dining room, and at the same time a stunning piece of traditional woodcarving. Employing axe and knife only, Maximillian's thoughtful, honed talents result in subtle details, both functional and aesthetic, from the smooth bowl, to the distinct, carefully placed marks of his knife's blade along the handle, whose details include a mix of facets and gentle curves. Each detail will amaze all those lucky enough to experience the object. In dark, beautiful, carbonized maple wood with wabi-sabi finish atop a coat of white acrylic paint, the compact handle is as natural in the hand as it is pleasing to the eye. A small number of handcrafted spoons are available from this delivery, each unique, carved one at a time in Austria.

The Story

Maximilian Neukäufler is Woodman's Finest, and Woodman's Finest in Maximillian, in every sense. From an early age Max sought out nature in its purest forms, enjoying both solitude and the oneness with the Earth, as well as activities, both solo and group-based, that rely on the natural world as backdrop. From hunting, to fishing, to boating, archery, foraging, camping, wood carving, teaching, and the rest, Maximillian's journey, including extensive travels the world over, have imbued him with an uncanny ability to harness what nature provides us, in a thoughtful, sustainable, unassuming way. Born in Innsbruck, Austria, Maximillian today focuses his many talents on the design and creation of wood and leather objects for the outdoors, as well as the design of carving and other tools that make his woodworking and leatherwork possible.
