"Patience, specially sourced material, flair, and a sense of aesthetic design are all required in order to produce knives of such quality."

Meet The Makers

Jürgen Schanz - Germany

Vice-Chairman of the German Knife Maker's Guild and a member of this elite group of craftspeople since 1995, Jürgen Schanz has been designing and building culinary knives and tools since he was a teenager in the early 1990's. Ever since Udo Schanz opened his machine and tool making shop in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1969, young Jürgen had access to the education and hand-on experience that has inspired him throughout his life. From exquisite fork and knife cutlery sets in his homemade stainless damascus steel to chef's knife and one-of-a-kind collector's masterpieces, Jürgen strives to deliver graceful aesthetics and superb functionality to his international cadre of passionate customers. In his earliest days, it was an elaborately crafted Japanese sword that earned him the German Guild's top honor of Master Craftsman, and today we have the privilege or representing Jürgen, now a member of the United States’, Italian, and Danish Knifemakers Guilds, and the striking tools he continues to create at his shop in Stutensee.
